Tree & Hedge Planting

Professional planting carried out with care and expertise

Selection and supply of pot grown and bare-rooted trees

Thomson Trees is passionate about the planting of amenity trees and hedges across Edinburgh. Tree planting not only enhances habitat value, but also provides natural screening and shade — increasingly important within Scotland’s expanding cities. From beech and hawthorn hedging plants to more established oak and Scots pine trees, we supply high-quality, locally sourced stock, all carefully hand-selected by our team.

tree planting methods

We offer a full range of tree planting techniques, including planting with or without weed abatement measures, and the use of tubing and staking to protect against voles, rabbits, hares and deer. Expert advice is always provided on the care and upkeep of newly planted trees, with ongoing aftercare available where required.

The improvement and maintenance of existing hedgerows

We are able to advise on improving habitat value, screening, durability and biodiversity through the use of a wide range of hedging species. Services also include reducing hedge height and mass, as well as infilling damaged or missing sections of hedgerow.

The restoration of older hedgerows can transform a property within just a few short years and is often a more sustainable and cost-effective option than felling and replanting from scratch. We are always happy to advise on whether this approach is a viable option for your hedge.

Creating A Greener Future

We take great pride in planting trees and proactively promote this service to our customers, particularly following the removal of existing trees. According to the Edinburgh Living Landscape website, to replace the number of trees that are dying or in decline across the city, Edinburgh would need to plant 6,000 trees per annum. In fact, over the past three years alone, Thomson Trees has planted an average of 2,750 trees per annum within Edinburgh and the surrounding areas.
